The Careers and Placement section of CEDARS organises a broad range of programmes to facilitate career planning and preparation for our postgraduate students, and supports them to prepare for a career after graduation. A wide spectrum of job interview skills training workshops are conducted regularly to help them prepare for the different forms of recruitment selection processes, ranging from large classes on job application writing skills to small group sessions on skills development and enhancement in assessment centres, such as group discussion and presentation. Schedule and registration method are announced via our Daily Jobs & Career Events email to students.

The Counselling and Person Enrichment Section (CoPE) offers tailor-made educational programmes and support services to help our postgraduate students not only achieve academic success during their stay at HKU but also develop psychosocial wellbeing as well as positive attitudes for their future success.

- Join “Peer English Tutoring”, a peer support initiative for one-to-one conversational English practice, jointly managed by Centre or Applied English Studies and CEDARS.
- Register for "Survival Cantonese" to learn 30 essential day-to-day Cantonese phrases from a student tutor.
- Take part in the “SEN Buddy Programme”, a service opportunity to foster mutual understanding between you and your peers with disabilities/Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Individual counselling service is offered to postgraduate students to support them in handling university adjustment, personal issues, relationship problems and to improving psychological health. We have a team of professional Clinical Psychologists and Counsellors. This service is confidential and free-of-charge. To consult a counsellor, please call 3917 8388, email cedars-cope@hku.hk or go to our office at Room 301-323, 3/F, Main Building. You will receive a 15-20 minute screening assessment conducted by our Duty Counsellor between 10 am and 5 pm (except the lunch hour: 1 pm to 2 pm) on any working days. Afterwards, a full counselling appointment will be scheduled for you within 2 weeks.
Students are encouraged to join our person enrichment programmes to explore and develop their potentials. These included workshops on effective learning, stress and time management, social and emotional competence, relationship and communication as well as the Certificate Course on Mental Health First Aid,.
Students are recommended to take various learning and psychological assessments at our web-based Psychological Profile - Psychometer psyax.cedars.hku.hk/ to monitor how well they are doing at HKU. Instant on-line feedback is available. Most assessments are free of charge.

The Student Development Team is committed to developing students into global citizens and socially responsible leaders by engaging them in vibrant, innovative and stimulating co-curricular programmes and offering relevant resources and advice. Our Programme covers three themes:

The HKU Service Network is an online platform specifically designed to support students to contribute to global issues through joining and developing sustainable and innovative service projects. Students may promote their service projects, recruit volunteers, identify partners and opportunities, share experience and even showcase their achievements to attract funding. Moreover, Student Development Team also provides support for student-initiated projects, NGOs and social enterprises as well as students’ participation in external competitions and conventions.

CEDARS administers the following funds:
- Henry Chan Inclusive Education Award is given to students with a disability who have excellent academic or extra-curricular performances, whereas Henry Chan Inclusive Education Grant for Students with a Disability or Special Educational Needs supports them to procure learning aids, equipment and services to facilitate their learning.
- SERVICE 100 Fund supports non-credit bearing student-initiated projects in- or outside of Hong Kong which adopt a service learning approach. The projects should be organised or led by HKU students or student bodies, and show sustainability in the long run.
- Yang Tuck Ming & Wong Fung Ying Service Learning Fund supports local Hong Kong students to partake non-credit bearing service learning in Hong Kong or abroad (excluding mainland) so as to promote the service spirit of the HKU community and students’ engagement in addressing a concern of the community or global problem that confronts all mankind.
- The Chui’s Student Excellence Scheme supports outstanding HKU full-time students to engage in prestigious conferences and symposia, join esteemed competitions; and those with a proven record in services and service learning to initiate and lead such projects to improve human condition.
