The Centre for Applied English Studies (CAES) primarily offers English enhancement courses and one to one services to assist UGC-funded postgraduate and undergraduate students to use English more effectively in their academic studies and their subsequent careers. CAES also offers tailored support to help non-UGC-funded taught postgraduate students improve their academic English skills on request of individual programmes.

In addition, CAES offers a taught postgraduate programme leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and co-offers the Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with the Faculty of Education.
